Washington County proclaims June 2025 as Pride Month

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on June 3 unanimously adopted a resolution designating June 2025 as Pride Month, following a presentation from the county’s Pride employee resource group.
Carrie Generax and Lizzie Grover, co-chairs of the county’s Pride employee resource group, presented the proclamation to the board, saying it affirms inclusion for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and sends a message of support to the broader Washington County community. The resolution cites the historical origin of Pride month in the June 1969 Stonewall uprising and urges community organizations to celebrate achievements and protect residents’ rights.
Commissioners spoke in support during discussion. Commissioner Claussen moved adoption of the resolution and Commissioner Bigham seconded. Commissioners who commented praised the ERG’s work and highlighted concerns raised during the presentation about homelessness, mental-health challenges and other disparities affecting LGBTQIA+ residents. The board then voted 5-0 to adopt the proclamation.
The proclamation is symbolic and does not create new county programs or change existing ordinances. Presenters asked the community to join county-sponsored Pride events and ongoing workplace inclusion efforts.
