The Sarasota County Commission voted unanimously on June 3 to support hosting the PGA Senior Championship in the region for 2026–28 and directed staff to pursue public-private partnership opportunities and support infrastructure and marketing that will showcase the region.
Senator (name in packet) and regional tourism representatives described the projected economic impact — an estimated $70 million total regional spend, substantial broadcast exposure and a multi-county approach with Manatee County as a partner. Commissioners praised the collaboration among Visit Sarasota, Manatee tourism officials and the PGA of America and asked staff to return with partnership language, signage opportunities at county gateways and a plan to amplify regional benefits for hotels, restaurants and sports tourism.
The motion passed unanimously; commissioners said they expected follow-on work to be coordinated with neighboring counties and local economic-development partners.
