Santa Rosa County commissioners on Thursday issued ceremonial proclamations recognizing waste and recycling employees and honoring two 4-H archers who qualified for a national competition.
The board proclaimed June 16, 2025, as Waste and Recycling Workers Week in Santa Rosa County, citing the role of solid waste employees in public health and environmental protection. Cas Mouniak, environmental manager, and landfill staff attended; Mouniak said the landfill team works in all weather and is "the warriors of waste."
The board also recognized Kaylee Marsh and Fletcher Hill as Florida state champions and National 4-H Archery Competition qualifiers. Prudence Casky, a 4-H leader, said the two archers had raised funds through bake sales, donations from the Santa Rosa County Fair Board and the UF Florida 4-H Foundation to help cover travel and lodging costs for the Grand Island, Nebraska competition.
Both proclamations were adopted by the board during the meeting. Commissioners used the recognition to thank both county environmental workers and volunteers who support youth programming.
Ending The board paused for photographs with landfill staff and the archery team and encouraged residents to observe Waste and Recycling Workers Week and to support local youth competing at the national 4-H event.
