Citywide historic-resource survey nears completion; deliverable due Sept. 30

Consultants working on Erie's citywide historic-resource survey reported that fieldwork was nearly finished and the project team expects to complete the full deliverable by Sept. 30, officials told the Historical Review Commission.
Jacqueline Spry, city planning director, said the consultant team "were almost fully complete with the infield survey" and that they have one remaining section of field work to finish. After fieldwork, consultants must complete research and data entry; Spry said the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will conduct a full review when the city submits the product. The survey contract includes a final report and maps; consultants have identified potential historic districts as part of their categorization work.
Commissioners said the city's historic preservation planner will assist with quality assurance and spot-checking the consultant work once the planner starts. Spry said the project is being conducted under the city's Certified Local Government (CLG) responsibilities, which requires SHPO review and certain deliverables. Commissioners discussed using the survey outputs in the city's GIS to display potential districts and noted the project produces a substantial volume of data that will require staff QA/QC.
