The Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the county commissioners vacate approximately 600 feet of an unimproved 50‑foot platted right‑of‑way within the Thornburg subdivision (Vacation 2025‑3 for Bogart).
Staff said the platted right‑of‑way dated to the subdivision’s original design when a small grass airport (Wallasea Airport) existed nearby. Most of the adjacent lots are now under common ownership; in several places buildings or a barn encroach into the unopened right‑of‑way. The petitioners propose vacating the unopened way so that affected tracks can be combined and no lots remain landlocked. Staff noted access to parcels at the far eastern end will be preserved for owners not included in the vacation.
Steve Snyder, representing the petitioners, described the request as a family‑led cleanup that eliminates an unused platted way blocked by vegetation and structures. Commissioners asked about utilities; Snyder confirmed there are no utilities within the unimproved strip.
A board member moved to recommend the vacation; the motion was seconded and the commission voted unanimously to send a recommendation to the county commissioners. Staff said the recommendation will go to the county commissioners at their June 17 meeting at 9:00 a.m.
