Maury County shelter expansion moves toward 60% design and October GMP target

Maury County officials and the project team for the Murray County shelter expansion told the building committee June 2 that they have funding to complete design through the 60% (design development) milestone and aim to present a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) in October.
Brandon Priti, project architect with 906 Studio Architects, said the team contracted Shelter Planners of America to complete a needs study and concept plan; the firm’s recommendations are expected in about four weeks. The program will include new adoption kennels, renovated medical and animal housing spaces and an addition sized to serve the county for decades.
Priti outlined a schedule that moves from schematic design in August to design development and civil/MEP/structural work, with 60% drawings and a contractor‑coordinated budget check targeted for October. Director Rafoff told the committee the capital allocation the commission approved covers the work required to reach 60% and produce a GMP.
Commissioner Grodi urged the team to accelerate work where possible so the project can be considered in the county’s October budget cycle; Priti said the team would “make that” effort and acknowledged the importance of the October timeline.
Ending: The committee asked the project team to provide interim updates and said members would try to schedule the next committee review so the shelter project can be considered by the county’s budget process in the fall.
