Sustainability office reports CMP engagement, Landcare outreach and waterfront event

Troy Moon, Portland’s director of sustainability, briefed the Sustainability & Transportation Committee on June 3 about recent and upcoming sustainability work, including coordination with Central Maine Power (CMP) over regional electric infrastructure plans, Landcare education programming and waterfront outreach.
Moon said CMP is preparing a capital improvement plan for the Greater Portland region and intends to file to the Public Utilities Commission in July; city staff have engaged with CMP to identify potential conflicts and opportunities with city projects and Moon said CMP offered to brief the committee in July. Moon described a Landcare webinar series on invasive plant removal and shoreland protection, referenced Bike to Work Day and a Walk the Working Waterfront event on May 31 that highlighted sea‑level rise and resilience and included planning staff presentations on Franklin Street.
Moon also noted local media coverage of city programs and ongoing work on stormwater management. Committee members asked staff to solicit CMP information specific to transformer reliability in outer neighborhoods, particularly for District 5 residents who reported recurrent outages tied to a transformer in West Falmouth.
Ending: Moon said staff will seek a CMP brief for the committee and continue Landcare and resilience outreach and coordination with planning and public works.
