Council postpones Pearl Street parking changes after truck-turn and center-line concerns

The City Council postponed consideration of a traffic-schedule amendment for Pearl Street and Cotton Street to the June 23 meeting after business owners raised concerns that large trucks could not make required turning movements under the originally proposed layout.
Mike Murray, director of Public Works, said staff met with business representatives and measured the site. A moving-and-storage operator said a 50-foot gap was insufficient for large tractor-trailers and requested additional space. Murray said staff measured an additional 50 feet (reducing three on-street spaces) and agreed to adjust center-line striping to improve safe passage; the council voted to postpone the item to allow staff to return with the revised layout and truck‑turn templates.
Will Noyes, CEO of Earl Noyes & Sons, said the business would offer to bring a large truck to the site to demonstrate turning needs and asked the council to ensure center-line painting is adjusted. Councilors and staff agreed additional on-site verification was prudent before adopting permanent parking changes.
The postponement was unanimous; staff will present revised drawings and measured truck-turn clearances at the June 23 meeting.
