Castle Dale Council ratifies park donation, adopts tentative budget and several ordinances

The Castle Dale City Council on June 12 ratified a $400,000 county donation for an All Abilities Park, approved a permit request for a summer bouldering camp, amended a garbage-container ordinance to extend allowed curb times, authorized opening the 2025 budget for necessary adjustments and adopted a tentative 2026 budget and the county tax rate.

The council voted to ratify the county donation for the All Abilities Park in the amount of $400,000. The council also unanimously approved a request from a summer camp organizer to use the visitor center on Main Street to store gear during camp sessions.

Councilmembers debated a discrepancy between two previously passed ordinances that set different time windows for when residential garbage containers may be placed at the curb. The council voted to standardize both ordinances to 24 hours before and 24 hours after collection; one councilmember voiced opposition during roll call.

The council approved a motion to open the 2025 budget so staff can move funds as needed to balance accounts before the end of the year, saying the adjustments are procedural steps required by state rules. The council also moved to adopt the county tax rate of 0.000873 and adopted a tentative 2026 city budget, scheduling a public hearing and a final budget adoption meeting for June 26.

Other routine actions included approving three business licenses that staff characterized as home-based operations, approving minutes and moving to pay the city bills.
