County planners on Monday presented a staff-level review of a proposed road name change that would rename a 1,300-foot unimproved segment of Cardwell Road to Conquest Road to match an off-site street name the developer will use for an approved eight-lot subdivision.
Holly King, senior planner, said the right-of-way is an unimproved 60-foot strip about half a mile west of the Bend Airport. The property owner to the north recently secured approval for an eight-lot residential subdivision that will continue the existing Cardwell Road alignment; the owner applied to rename the off-site segment so the two sections will have a consistent street name.
King said county staff notified adjoining property owners and coordinated with Deschutes County 911 and the county property-address coordinator; staff recorded no objections to the change and determined no abutting addresses would be altered because access for those parcels comes from other roads.
The board was told the order effectuating the name change will appear on the consent agenda at Wednesday’s meeting. No formal action occurred during the work session; staff said the developer will be responsible for road improvements when the subdivision proceeds to final plat.
