The Scofield Town Council on Monday adopted an amended fiscal year 2025 budget, approved its proposed 2026 budget and authorized transferring up to $40,000 from the town’s utility fund to the general fund for fiscal year 2026.
The council noted that $40,000 had been transferred from the utility fund to the general fund for fiscal year 2025 earlier in the year. During the meeting a council member said, “$40,000 has been transferred from the utility fund to the general fund for fiscal year 2025,” and the council later approved a motion authorizing a transfer of up to $40,000 for FY2026.
Councilors discussed that the amended budget does not obligate spending beyond amounts appropriated; one council member said the amended figures identify available appropriations and do not mean the town will necessarily spend every line item. A motion to adopt the amended 2025 budget and a separate motion to adopt the proposed 2026 budget were both moved, seconded and approved.
Ending: Council members asked staff to monitor the town’s revenue streams and potential effects on utility rates if mine-related income declines. No specific rate increases or further budgetary actions were taken at the meeting.
