County adopts ordinance banning engine braking where posted

Duchesne County commissioners voted June 9 to adopt Ordinance 25-4-21, which prohibits use of engine brakes in areas where signs are posted.
County counsel said the ordinance was revised to remove an earlier exception for vehicles equipped with mufflers, making the prohibition an across-the-board ban in posted zones. Commissioners discussed enforcement challenges but concluded that codifying the ban was necessary to give county law enforcement an enforceable tool and to signal local expectations where residents have complained about excessive noise.
The ordinance will be published and take effect following the statutory publication period (the attorney noted the ordinance does not take effect for 15 days after publication). Commissioners asked the county attorney and staff to coordinate the timing of publication and signature of the adopting ordinance so it can be published in the next week's newspaper edition.
