Commission members emphasized that the project is still in a conceptual, community-engagement phase and encouraged residents and sustainability commissioners to contribute ideas on branding, wayfinding, signature events and options for business and economic development along the corridor. Commissioners also discussed potential canopy increases and median landscaping to create cooling pockets along Broadway.
Staff said the Complete Streets work will include improvements to RTD stops such as benches and coverings and noted that the work is funded by a Complete Streets grant. Commissioners suggested that framing sustainability goals in terms of placemaking and economic vibrancy could broaden community support.
The project team plans additional public engagement over the coming months; commissioners urged early participation to shape design details that affect pedestrian, transit and tree-planting decisions.
