District construction update: modular TK buildings on schedule, MOT warehouse permitting hurdles remain

District staff provided a construction update that highlighted active site work on modular TK classrooms, maintenance and operations (MOT) site work, and the Norris Middle School office remodel.
Dan, who delivered the update, said the Veterans and Olive Drive TK classroom projects have grading, sewer/plumbing connections and initial site work complete and are awaiting delivery of modular buildings from Silver Creek, with delivery scheduled no later than July 1. "They're modular, from Silver Creek. So we're working on that. It's supposed to be delivered no later than July 1," Dan said.
Other items Dan covered: - Veterans and Olive Drive TK modular projects: grading done; plumbing and sewer connections in place; footings to be poured; electrical scope switched from trenching to boring to save costs. District construction management and architects are coordinating delivery and installation. - Norris Middle School: award of a bid for an office wall and teacher workroom remodel to Old Ironsides Construction was on the agenda and approved (see Votes at a glance). - MOT site: work has been more complicated because approvals require city review; Dan said the city requested additional fees and site improvements such as a streetlight and joining a maintenance district, which the district is contesting. The MOT building is mostly steel, and staff are monitoring possible tariffs that could affect steel pricing. - Summer cleanup: staff completed campus cleanups and planned modest maintenance and signage improvements to the front PD center to house nursing services and tech storage.
Dan said construction meetings will be held every two weeks and that the district'project team includes the inspector of record, architects and construction managers.
Why this matters: the projects expand TK capacity and support instructional space needs. Staff flagged implementation risk where outside approvals or material-price volatility could affect schedules and budgets.
