Huntland School highlights family engagement, hands‑on learning and facility upgrades

Miss Crabtree, speaking for Huntland School, presented highlights of the year, emphasizing family engagement events, active learning and expanded extracurricular opportunities across all grade levels.

Crabtree described recurring family events — pumpkin parade, grandparent and veteran luncheons, a fall festival and trunk‑or‑treat — and said organizers designed activities so parents and grandparents would visit campus and increase students’ sense of belonging. She said teachers created hands‑on classroom experiences and planned field trips tied to curriculum; examples included bowling to study motion, trips to Tims Ford State Park and middle‑school visits to historical ship replicas.

Crabtree praised student service clubs (Interact, FFA, FBLA, TSA), noting multiple state‑level competitions and winners and saying Interact frequently coordinates food drives, veteran outreach and teacher appreciation efforts. She described a senior walk with kindergarten students as a signature annual event and said homecoming activities included multi‑day events, floats, class competitions and schoolwide participation.

On facilities, Crabtree said Huntland installed a maple hardwood gym floor in November, upgraded cameras and fencing as safety measures, added a new hitting facility for baseball/softball and completed window tinting. She gave a status update on the soccer field: donated dirt has been placed and staff expect to grade, compact and fertilize once dry weather allows, with bleachers and player benches on site and a scoreboard ordered. "The goal is to have it ready by August," she said.

Board members thanked Huntland representatives for the report; no formal action resulted from the spotlight presentation.
