Students seek to bring peer leadership programs — fatal vision goggles, mental‑health talks and drug story theater — to Walpole High

Members and student leaders from the Norfolk County District Attorney Peer Leadership Program presented their work to the school committee on June 12 and described three programs they hope to bring to Walpole High: Fatal Vision goggles demonstrations, Minding Your Mind mental‑health presentations, and Drug Story Theater.
Linda Anderson, identified as a nurse leader and co‑leader of the peer leadership program, outlined student activities including community service at local cleanup events and conferences. Students who participated described the programs: a Fatal Vision goggles demonstration that simulates impairment; Minding Your Mind, which uses peer speakers to reduce stigma and teach mental‑health skills; and Drug Story Theater, an immersive theater project featuring unscripted stories from people affected by addiction.
Students and the presenter said the district could use a recently received drug‑free community grant in partnership with the health department to bring the programs to the high school. Committee members encouraged the students to approach high‑school administration and health teachers as the next step and to pursue building‑level planning.
The committee recognized student leaders and indicated the district will explore how to integrate the proposals with school schedules and existing health and safety education work.
