Adam (staff) said upgrades include replacing a glass door in the downstairs planning/public works corridor with a solid door, modifying the vestibules into the community room so interior flow is visible, and adding a solid door at the elevator end of the downstairs hall. Upstairs, the open handrail area will be framed into a wall with windows and a storefront door to create a secured access point separating public areas from staff-only hallways. Similar solid-core doors will be added in the Park and Recreation administration wing and other case openings will be closed to improve security.
Staff said badge readers on some doors will be removed and that the changes are intended to better control building circulation for safety and to limit unauthorized access to work areas. Councilmembers supported the improvements and asked clarifying questions about access and flow during events.
