Local advocacy group urges tougher accountability for juveniles, marks community events after recent shootings

Mosley described a recent slate of community events the group organized in partnership with the Union County District Attorney’s Office, including a homicide survivor support meeting launched May 15 and a county-wide “stop the gun violence” rally on June 8 in Monroe. She announced a candlelight memorial at Gateway Park in Monroe on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for Alvin Parson, who was killed May 31.
Mosley said her organization’s goals include: (1) holding juveniles fully accountable for murder regardless of age; (2) holding parents legally accountable for crimes committed by their children; and (3) urging courts to impose maximum penalties in murder cases, including life without parole where applicable. She also called for recognition of grandparents’ roles in families.
Mosley said she lost her son, Marcus Gerard Mosley, to gun violence on Sept. 29, 2020, and described the work as personal. She asked the council to support the organization’s initiatives by using its platform to raise awareness and to back efforts to obtain funds for prevention and survivor support.
