Madison County election commissioners voted to end the contract for Precinct 416 at Mount Levi and relocate the precinct to Liberty MB Church, and authorized the county attorney to send a letter notifying the Mount Levi pastor that the precinct will no longer be used there.
The commissioners discussed the change during their June meeting and approved a motion to authorize attorney Spence Blackguard to send Pastor Bobby Hunter a dissolution letter. Commissioners said the move restores a previous polling location and noted a 90-day window to complete the change; the commission also said there are no scheduled elections at Precinct 416 this year, which created a timing window to implement the relocation.
Commissioners discussed previous difficulties with access at Mount Levi. One commissioner said Mount Levi had been "giving us a free run around the last few elections" and indicated the decision followed consultation with Supervisor Banks and the county attorney. The motion to approve the new contract and authorize the letter passed by voice vote.
The authority to send the dissolution notice was given to County Attorney Spence Blackguard, who had prepared the draft letter. Commissioners directed staff to notify voters and update precinct information once the relocation is finalized.
The relocation affects District 4 Precinct 416 and the commissioners said they would notify residents when the change is effective. No specific effective date for the precinct move was given in the meeting notes.
