Residents of the Emerald Woods neighborhood described longstanding water-quality and well problems and thanked the town and Union County for work to extend a waterline so residents can connect to treated municipal water.
A brief video presentation highlighted community meetings and the process of identifying grant and funding sources, county coordination and contractor work to bring a distribution line into the neighborhood. A resident who said she has lived in Emerald Woods about seven years told the council several neighbors had experienced illness related to well water and that community members had approached the town seeking help. The town and county then worked to identify resources and grant funding to build a water line; the resident thanked the county and contractors for completing the work and said another nearby neighborhood (Morris Park) is a candidate for future water service.
In remarks following the video, council members praised the work and urged that other communities with similar issues be considered for county or town assistance.
