The Calvert County Board of Education voted to remove an anti-racism resolution from the students' code of conduct and to take the resolution down from the district's website and social media.
Board members said the 06/11/2020 resolution had been incorporated into the code by staff after a remote meeting during the COVID period; the then-seated board had approved the resolution and had also published it online but, according to remarks in the meeting, did not direct staff to add the resolution to the code of conduct document. A motion to remove the resolution from the code and from online platforms passed on a board voice vote.
The board subsequently approved the students' rights, responsibilities and code of conduct for the 2025'26 school year as amended at the meeting. In the same vote cycle the board directed staff to bring policy 10-18 (anti-racism) forward for review outside its normal schedule in August.
Board materials note the code of conduct is an internal district document revised annually by a committee of students, teachers, parents, guardians, school and district administrators and community members and that policy 10-12 (policies) would have required a 4-week public comment period if this were a policy rather than an internal document.
