Parks and recreation reports summer programs, Juneteenth events and near-term facility completions

The Marietta Parks and Recreation director reported that summer camps and contracted programs are active across city facilities and highlighted several upcoming events.
Director Rich Bus said city-run and partner camps are operating, including STEM, magic and soccer camps, and noted strong attendance at the spray ground when weather permits. He said Glover Park will host Juneteenth activities including a Friday-night concert and a full day of vendors and entertainment on Saturday, with family programming on Sunday; staff anticipate some street closures for the event.
On July 4 the city’s parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with music in the park beginning at noon and fireworks planned for about 9:30 p.m. Bus also reported that a restroom facility at Wildwood Park is expected to be completed in July, though delivery may be delayed by a contractor schedule and could slip by about a week.
Staff said the city will circulate ribbon-cutting invitations for recently completed park work and reminded council the spray ground attendance peaked at roughly 260 visitors before storms on a recent day. No new fees or programmatic changes were proposed during the review session.
