Marietta highlights Public Works Week, unveils two new fire trucks and details infrastructure projects

Public Works director Mark said the city produced a series of short videos highlighting streets, engineering, fleet, sanitation, traffic and building inspections divisions. The streets division segment said the department maintains roughly 257 miles of streets and 514 miles of curbing and sidewalks within Marietta; engineering handles about 2,500 permits and more than 9,000 inspections annually and manages roughly $12 million a year in SPLOST construction work. Fleet staff said they maintain about 725 vehicles and equipment units. Sanitation staff reported residential solid-waste collection for about 15,500 customers and recycling collection for roughly 7,500 customers.
Fire and fleet staff confirmed two new fire trucks have arrived and are being outfitted. A staff member who is managing equipment procurement said, "we got these, about 680,000, and they're going for about 900 right now," describing market comparables and the city's purchase price as presented to the council. City staff said the new units will be placed into service at stations 55 and 56 once equipment and technology installations are complete; older vehicles will be shifted into reserve status or sent to the shop for refurbishment.
Mark provided project updates: the Merritt Road landfill capping project is complete and stabilized, Roswell Street's four-lane gap is under construction and expected to be substantially complete in about 45 days, the last curbing at Fairground in Hailey is finished and a ribbon cutting is being scheduled, and Mountain View Ridge road widening is waiting on Atlanta Gas to relocate a line. He also said the city advanced to the next round of an EPA recycling grant competition and, if awarded, would receive $1 million with no local match for roll carts and related recycling conversion work.
City staff gave approximate counts and timelines in video narration and discussion; officials noted some figures were rounded in the videos. No new budget approvals were made during the review session; budget placement on the full agenda was adjusted so council can consider financing decisions with the new finance director present.
