Del Valle ISD board adopts superintendent evaluation instrument, then meets in closed session

The Del Valle ISD Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a new superintendent evaluation instrument during a special board meeting in June 2025 and then convened in closed session to conduct the annual evaluation.
“I move to adopt the annual superintendent evaluations presented,” Secretary Guadion said when offering the motion; Trustee Burton seconded. The motion passed by a voice/show-of-hands vote, recorded as 7–0 in favor.
Board members said the tool was developed by an evaluation committee that met multiple times and that the instrument is tied to the superintendent’s entry plan. “We created a new document based on his 120 day, the 100 day entry plan... Did he do it? Did he meet it? Did he exceed it? And go from there,” one committee member summarized.
After adopting the instrument the board entered closed session under the Texas Government Code provisions cited on the record: consultation with legal counsel (TGC 551.071) and discussion of personnel (TGC 551.074), and for the superintendent evaluation and contract. The board announced in open session that it had ended executive session at 10:34 p.m., that no further action would be taken that evening, and then adjourned on a 7–0 voice vote.
The board chair and staff said a hard copy of the instrument would be provided to trustees in connection with the closed-session evaluation process.
