A county staff member identified as the environmental health presenter said the department is fully staffed with nine positions and that seven employees require continuing education. The office requested an increase in conference and association dues from $7,500 to $10,000 to cover licensing-related travel, larger waste-disposal funding for cleanups (the line has grown in recent years and the presenter cited the annual October event as an example that can cost $15,000'$20,000), higher vehicle-repair funds for an aging fleet (eight vehicles, several 2016'2017 models), and replacement of older computers. The presenter asked for a 4.15% step increase for one qualifying employee and recommended a 5% cost-of-living increase for all department employees if approved countywide.
Animal control presentation
Animal control staff said construction of a new shelter off Highway 77 is underway and the 2026 budget should reflect startup and operating needs. New or expanded line items include ongoing waste-disposal and monthly dumpster fees, a $3,000 software subscription line, a miscellaneous $20,000 line to offset cost of animal food for the shelter, additional general supplies, $30,000 for furniture and fixtures, and a budgeted line for cat cages. Staff said they anticipate some line items could be adjusted as actual costs are known.
County response: Commissioners asked routine questions about conference frequency and praised the inclusion of vehicle and equipment replacement plans. No formal vote was taken during the presentations.
