Commission names Florida League committee reps and fills two advisory-board vacancies

The Winter Springs City Commission on Monday finalized its representation on Florida League of Cities policy committees and filled several local advisory-board vacancies.

By motion, the commission approved the slate of League assignments. Mayor Kevin McCann will continue on finance and taxation; Deputy Mayor Cade Resnick on intergovernmental relations; Commissioner Victoria Bruce on natural resources; Commissioner Sarah Baker on development and code compliance; and Commissioner Paul Diaz on municipal operations.

Commissioners said continuity was a primary consideration and that members who had been serving on particular League committees would remain where they had institutional knowledge.

The commission also addressed open advisory-board seats. Commissioners moved to appoint Art Gallo to Code Enforcement Board Seat 2 effective July 31, 2025. The body then approved Commissioner Paul Diaz’s nomination of Joanne Krebs to a code board seat; motion and second were recorded as made by Diaz and Bruce respectively and the nomination passed.

For the Veterans Advisory Board, the commission approved the nomination of Marguerite Orff to the Veterans and Families Advisory Board, noting the board’s desire to include a family-member representative in addition to veteran members.

All recorded motions on the slate and appointments passed on unanimous voice votes.

Staff noted remaining vacancies on some boards with future term expiration dates and said applications and unapproved minutes for advisory boards are available on the city website. The commission also asked staff to develop a clearer, regular process for bringing board and committee summaries to the commission so the public and commissioners can more easily track advisory-board activity.
