Joshua Green, Johnson County Facilities Management Director, told the Commissioners Court on June 9 that the courthouse elevator is antiquated and that manufacturer Schindler provided a modernization estimate of about $400,000.
“We reached out to Schindler, our contractor, to get some pricing and ideas,” Green said. “The number came back around 400,000 to completely modernize and update everything that’s outdated.” He explained that many elevator parts are obsolete and that a full retrofit would replace outdated components and improve reliability.
County officials asked whether courthouse restoration funds or similar grant programs might help offset the cost. A commissioner suggested applying for courthouse restoration funding and staff said they planned to pursue available assistance and to reapply for previously sought funds for steps and other exterior repairs.
Green also noted that facilities crews were occupied responding to recent storms and had spent time this morning addressing a broken flag tower and that several in‑house projects remain underway.
Ending — Commissioners directed staff to continue exploring grant options and to return with more detailed estimates and funding recommendations during the budget process.
