Johnson County 4‑H brings three national‑qualifying teams, scholarships and state honors back from Roundup

Kristen Clark, Johnson County Extension Agent, told the Commissioners Court on June 9 that about 40 local 4‑H members competed at the Texas 4‑H Roundup and returned with significant results: three teams qualified for national contests, multiple individual placings were recorded, and one local participant received an $8,000 Fort Worth Stock Show scholarship.
The county’s ag product identification team qualified for nationals and produced the high‑point individual award winner. The livestock judging team — the first Johnson County livestock judging team to qualify for state in more than two decades, Clark said — placed and will attend the Western National 4‑H Roundup in Denver. The county’s horse quiz bowl team placed in state competition and will attend the All‑American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio.
Clark listed team members and coaches by community (Grandview, Joshua and Cleburne) during her report and noted that many of the students qualified for state contests through earlier local competitions. She also highlighted volunteer coaches and thanked county leaders for support.
Commissioners praised the results during the public announcements portion of the meeting. Commissioner comments singled out Larry Wooley for recognition as the Texas 4‑H Outstanding Alumni and noted the unusual achievement of three national qualifiers in a single year: “A good year is when we have one,” one commissioner said; “to have three, that’s quite an accomplishment.”
