Board proclaims June 9–13, 2025, as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation recognizing June 9–13, 2025 as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week and publicly thanked county children-and-youth staff for their work.

A commissioner read the proclamation into the record, citing the risks child welfare professionals face while investigating abuse and neglect and the complexity of their work. The proclamation noted that staff must often work with families in crisis and that the work can involve long hours, low pay and exposure to dangerous situations.

Jill, director of Carbon County Children and Youth Services, told the board she could not attend in person because she was at a conference on child-welfare laws and regulations but said she appreciated the recognition. "I really appreciate the commissioners taking the time to acknowledge our staff, our 13 caseworkers, ranging from 20 of service to 4 months of service and anything in between," Jill said, adding that staff "show up with a smile" and face difficult conditions when they go into homes.

A member of the sheriff’s office also thanked the children-and-youth staff and described responding to dangerous home conditions while working as a first responder. Commissioners expressed gratitude for staff efforts; one commissioner said the job is "probably the worst job in Carbon County, but it's the most rewarding."

A motion to adopt the proclamation passed with all commissioners voting yes. The proclamation text will be placed in county records and the board presented acknowledgement to Children and Youth Services representatives.
