The proclamation noted the staff's exposure to dangerous situations and said county Children and Youth Services work "often with low pay, long hours, tremendous demands, little appreciation" while protecting children.
Jill, identified in the meeting as the Children and Youth director, said she could not attend in person because she was "currently at a conference learning more about child welfare laws and regulations," but thanked the commissioners and praised her staff of 13 caseworkers, noting they ranged from "20 of service to 4 months of service and anything in between." She added, "They go out, and they help children and families and put their best effort forward. Sometimes it is a dangerous situation. They're knocking on doors. They don't know what's gonna come, but they really are. Their hearts are in it."
Commissioners and other speakers thanked the department staff for their service. One commissioner remarked, "it's probably the worst job in Carbon County, but it's the most rewarding," adding appreciation for the staff's compassion and work to help children in difficult living conditions.
The board's adoption of the proclamation was recorded on the meeting agenda and the proclamation was presented to department representatives on the record.
