Commission members said $5,000 in donations previously designated for the shed remain available for materials and suggested asking the county commissioners to solicit bids from local contractors so the work can be completed rather than waiting for county maintenance availability. Commissioners noted county maintenance has competing priorities this season, including courthouse repairs, and that a local contractor bid process could accelerate completion.
Commission members reported the roof leak appears during heavier rain and depending on wind direction; the leak has produced a small moldy spot in the ceiling of the kennel area and commissioners said they want that addressed to avoid further deterioration. Security camera contractors have inspected the shelter and a camera installation is pending; staff said they are waiting for installation.
The commission confirmed an order has been placed for the final three kennel doors needed to complete the kennels. Commissioners also discussed a yard‑sale fundraising request that was submitted and, because the county had not yet formally approved the event, the shelter could not advertise the sale until approval was received. Regarding storage, the shelter plans to request another storage unit if the yard sale is approved and to contact the company that lent storage previously.
Separately, commissioners said they submitted information to county commissioners about an Eagle Scout candidate who proposed building a covered donation box outside the shelter to collect after‑hours donations; the commission described prior scout projects as beneficial and expects the county to consider approval.
No formal commission votes were taken on these facility items during the meeting; the matters were discussed for referral to county officials or staff follow‑up.
