The Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved Proclamation 2025P-056 proclaiming June 16–22, 2025 as National Pollinator Week in Douglas County.
Jessica Gardner, horticulture outreach coordinator for UNR Extension, described a slate of educational events across Northern Nevada tied to the proclamation: a kickoff movie at the Douglas County Public Library on June 16, Junior Master Gardener pollinator-habitat installations at Heritage Park Gardens, a bumble-bee atlas observation day and a culminating garden tour on June 22 with participating gardens across Washoe County, Carson City and Douglas County.
The proclamation text cited declines in pollinator populations since the 1950s and encouraged public actions to increase pollinator habitat and forage. Commissioners thanked Gardner and local volunteers for organizing the programs.
The proclamation is ceremonial and does not create county funding or regulatory changes; county staff and UNR Extension will carry out the described outreach events.
