Riley County emergency management upgrades radios, schedules EOC training and nears move to Konza space

Russell Stuckey, director of Riley County Fire District #1 and Riley County Emergency Management, gave a monthly update on June 5 describing communications upgrades, training and facility moves.
Stuckey said Homeland Security Council-provided handheld radios were upgraded and programmed with local templates; the county paid programming costs so the radios can be used for local events and deployed during disasters. He noted Motorola will sunset support for older radios and the county upgraded devices at a much lower cost than replacing them.
Stuckey announced a regional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) basic operations training to be held in September at the new EMS training room; the course will be open to county, city and regional agency staff and will be free aside from in-kind room use and refreshments. He encouraged county staff to register early.
Stuckey said emergency management and fire staff have moved into Konza space (address noted in the meeting) with functioning phones and computers and that Station 110 in University Park is nearing completion; bathroom framing is complete and utility hookups are pending. He also requested and received approval from the board for out-of-state travel to present at a national conference; conference registration will be provided by a vendor and the county will cover transportation and meals.
