Commission appoints sheriff’s designee to Rise Up Tripartite Board for social services

The Board of County Commissioners approved appointing the Douglas County Sheriff, or his designee, to serve as the elected-official representative to the Rise Up Tripartite Board for Douglas County Social Services.
Jody Martinez, social services manager, explained that the board required by the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program must include three “legs”: a low-income representative, a community representative and an elected-official (or designee). The county previously used the public administrator to fill the elected-official slot; because that position is no longer an elected office the county sought a new elected-official representative.
Sheriff Dan Carley told commissioners he would not personally serve but confirmed his office would fill the slot and named Administrative Captain Stork as his designee. “We work very closely with community social services, and they’re a great partner,” Carley said.
Commissioner Rice moved to approve the appointment of the sheriff or his designee to the Rise Up Tripartite Board; Commissioner Tarkanian seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
