Commissioners authorize recruitment to fill elections specialist position ahead of 2025 election work

Riley County Clerk Rich Ward asked the commission on June 5 to approve requisitioning to fill a now-vacant elections specialist position so the clerk’s office can begin recruitment and training ahead of 2025 election responsibilities.
Ward said duties include poll-worker notifications, provisional-ballot handling and bookkeeping support for the elections division. He told commissioners the post is budgeted in the 2025 budget and that prior employee left county employment rather than being promoted. Commissioners authorized the clerk’s office to advertise and recruit for the position; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Ward and commissioners discussed logistics for election night staging and training space, and Ward said he is making contingency plans in case usual facilities are not available.
