Pottstown to seek stable SEPTA funding and certify PART budget; council to consider resolution Monday

Borough staff asked council on June 4 to adopt a resolution urging state leaders to establish permanent, dedicated and sustainable funding for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and to maintain current funding levels for the borough’s regional transit connections.
Borough Manager Justin Keller said the resolution would be sent to the governor and the General Assembly. He also asked council to support the restoration of passenger rail service between Reading and Philadelphia, a regional service priority discussed by local rail advocates.
Keller reported that staff assembled a recommended Park (regional transit) budget for fiscal year 2025–26 after awarding a transportation contract to Park Inc. The recommended, balanced budget totals $3,838,517 and is covered entirely by federal, state and county funds, Keller said. He asked council to adopt the budget at the next meeting.
A councilor supported sending the SEPTA resolution to state leaders and asked council to adopt it on Monday; no formal vote was taken June 4, and staff will place the resolution and the PART budget on the next agenda for formal action.
