Susan B. Anthony Middle School students describe Ron Clark 'house' system to USD 383 board

Students from Susan B. Anthony Middle School presented the school's pilot of the Ron Clark Academy'style house system and said the program has increased student belonging and leadership.
Carson Robinette introduced the presentation as one of the AMS house leaders and said, "It's more than just teams or colors or chance. It's a culture. A movement where all of us have a crew and a cause." Students described seven houses for eighth graders this year, each with a name and values such as giving, friendship, courage and unity.
Student presenters said houses earn points for academics, character and participation and that the system includes house leaders who plan events and public speaking opportunities. "Students who used to feel invisible now stand tall," one student said during the presentation.
Board members praised the teachers who led implementation (identified in the meeting as Dr. Avi and Miss Miller), and trustees asked for a written description of each house and additional implementation information. Jamie (board member) asked for a description; Kurt (board member) requested more materials and to share the house descriptions with the board. School staff said the system began with eighth grade this year and will expand schoolwide next year.
Ending: Trustees thanked the students and staff for the presentation and asked staff to provide the board with more detailed documentation about the houses and the rollout plan for expansion.
