Lake County proclaims June 2025 LGBTQIA2S+ Pride Month and approves courthouse flag display

The proclamation, read aloud by Supervisor Sabatier during the meeting, cited the Declaration of Independence and a history of civil-rights movements, and commemorated the 1969 Stonewall riots as the origin of June Pride observances. "One of my favorite American creeds to live by is ... that all men are created equal," Sabatier said while reading the declaration text and the board's resolution.
The document notes that LGBTQIA2S+ residents of Lake County face elevated health risks and disparities. "Nobody deserves to have poor health outcomes because of who they are, and because of who they love," said Leila Romero, Health Equity Coordinator for Lake County Health Services, who attended the presentation and discussed local outreach tied to the proclamation.
Romero said the county and community partners are staging a Pride Health Fair this Saturday at Copperton Community Park in Lakeport from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., intended as a family event with resource booths, food vendors and activities. She also described a specially designed flag the county will fly: "I wanted to create something that was both inclusive and specific to Lake County," Romero said, describing an outline of Lake County over a Progress Pride design that includes intersex, trans, BIPOC and Two-Spirit elements.
A representative of Edward Community Services said the Harbor Youth Resource Center on Main Street will hold a Pride prom intended for youth 14 to 24; the staff member initially said the event was scheduled for June 15 at 5 p.m., then corrected the date to June 14 during the same remarks. The center's representative described the Harbor Youth Resource Center as a "safe place for all youth, 14 to 24," including those who identify as LGBTQIA2S+.
After brief public comment and questions, Supervisor Sabatier moved to place the flag on the courthouse building for the month of June 2025; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote recorded as 5-0-0. The proclamation was noted as "passed and adopted" and signed by Board Chair EJ Crandall.
The board's action is symbolic: the proclamation recognizes historical civil-rights milestones, calls for local support for LGBTQIA2S+ residents, and directs the county to display the flag at the courthouse during June 2025. The county did not identify any funding or new regulatory changes associated with the proclamation during the meeting.
