The Porterville City Council recognized Sergeant Enrique Lara as the city’s employee of the month for his work overseeing the Porterville Police Department’s Professional Standards and Training Unit.
Acting City Manager Knight introduced the presentation and Chief Costello described Lara’s background: Lara grew up locally, graduated from Strathmore High School, served in the U.S. Air Force in security forces for more than four years, graduated from the College of the Sequoias police academy near the top of his class, and joined the Porterville Police Department in August 2013. Chief Costello said Lara’s assignments have included patrol, field training, narcotics detective work, patrol and investigations corporal duties and, currently, sergeant supervising pre-employment backgrounds, internal affairs investigations, departmental training, policy management and the department’s crime-prevention unit.
Chief Costello said Lara’s Professional Standards and Training Team had been recognized with the Lexipol gold standard for policy management, which the chief described as the highest achievable recognition from the department’s policy provider. During his remarks Lara thanked his chief, administrative staff and mentors and closed by saying, “City council, thank you for the support. It's much appreciated, and God bless America.”
Council members posed for photographs with Lara after the presentation. The council meeting transcript does not record any formal personnel action tied to the recognition; it was presented as a ceremonial award.
