The Omaha City Council on May 20 approved a $255,000 purchase order to Dostel's Construction Company for demolition and reconstruction of playground and court facilities at Dolman Park in South Omaha.
Parks and Recreation Director Matt Kalsovich described the project as the next phase of neighborhood-driven improvements. The work will replace the existing playground, renovate a half basketball court and rebuild the sand-volleyball court; the package also includes an open-air shelter and landscaping associated with a plaza and commemoration project tied to the Santa Lucia Festival.
Kalsovich said the design reflects neighborhood input on play features and colors and that philanthropic contributions supplemented capital funding. Council members who represent the area praised the incremental park investments and the city's partnership with local philanthropic groups. The motion to approve the purchase order passed unanimously on roll call.
Parks staff said the improvements are intended to enhance recreational amenities in a compact neighborhood park and to complement recent tennis-court and plaza upgrades.
