District administrators reported improved staffing and retention data to the Board at the May 29 Committee of the Whole meeting.
The district’s personnel update said 25 of 26 teacher/staff positions were filled for the coming year, a marked improvement from prior years when vacancies numbered higher. Officials noted three years ago the district had about 17 vacancies at this point in the hiring cycle; resignations this year numbered roughly 20 with four retirements and two nonrenewals reported during the year.
Superintendent Todd Rhodes and personnel staff described recruiting successes including at least eight hires who entered teaching from non‑education careers via alternative‑certification pathways, and a new Midlands para‑to‑teacher cohort that will start in June with five paraprofessionals moving into certification coursework. The district also noted partnerships with UNK and other local recruiting channels and said principals’ retention efforts are contributing to lower vacancy numbers.
Administrators said the district continues to monitor resignation and retirement trends and will complete next-year onboarding and interviews in June. Board members asked for the resignation and retirement breakdowns given in a recent superintendent briefing and the personnel office agreed to provide that data as part of budget and staffing documentation.
