Supervisors report local updates: ambulance schedule, new deputy, DRE certification, Board of Adjustment approval and Head Start items

Supervisor reports noted emergency services and personnel changes: the new county ambulance remains on schedule and is expected in about 13 months, the sheriff's office hired a new deputy who started on the 15th of the month, and Gunner Gillard completed Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training, becoming the first certified DRE in Carroll County.
The board also heard about a recent Carroll Board of Adjustment decision: the board of adjustment approved an application by Justin Schrader for one additional chemical storage tank on Delta Avenue. That approval was reported by a supervisor as an item handled by the board of adjustment, not as a direct action of the Board of Supervisors.
Head Start matters received attention. A supervisor reported that the Head Start Policy Council reviewed its budget and showed year-to-date spending at about 41% of the program year; the council approved the program's annual transportation waiver for buses without harnesses and is finalizing walk-through plans for a new Head Start building. The supervisor said the program flagged two recurring operational items during a review: limited dentist participation in the program and questions about CNA credentialing documentation; those concerns were characterized as routine and under review.
Regional and emergency preparedness updates included a report from a supervisor who attended the North Raccoon River Watershed meeting and said the watershed group currently lacks funding and struggle to secure attendance for meetings. A separate report on hazardous materials region 5 (Fort Dodge) said the region purchased metering equipment paid for by an ICAP grant, the region applied to Union Pacific Railroad for a drone (decision expected in September), and applied to POET for two SCBA cylinders (self-contained breathing apparatus). The supervisor said funding for regional emergency services is tight, noting uncertainty around several pending federal grants.
Supervisors also noted a local vacancy in township government: Leon Baumower, a trustee in Roselle Township, passed away and the board will begin the process to find a replacement.
