The Oroville Planning Commission voted to approve an amendment to use permit UP2510, allowing the Hampton Inn’s bar to sell distilled spirits in addition to beer and wine. The motion passed 5–0 with two members absent.
Staff said the original use permit, approved in 2020, authorized beer and wine for the hotel’s internal bar and for the hotel construction; the hotel opened in June 2024 but the bar has not yet begun alcohol sales. The applicant requested the permit change to allow distilled spirits (full alcohol service) to support bar and event service in the hotel’s ballroom and dining area.
Planning staff noted nearby establishments that sell alcoholic beverages and reported that the parcel and surrounding parcels were reviewed under the same buffer criteria used for other permits. Staff recommended approval of the amendment.
Hotel representatives told commissioners the bar and food service are intended primarily for overnight guests and their invitees, and that management is considering whether to open service to the general public at a later date. Staff said the permit was written without a strict guest‑only limitation; if the hotel changes its operation materially, staff would reexamine the permit and the hotel might need to return to the commission for a change.
No members of the public spoke on the item. The commission approved the amendment; the tally reported at the meeting was five yeses, two absent.
