Board briefed on performing arts center, Southern Middle and Lincoln Park bids; approves CM3 energy contract and classroom moves

The Wilson School Board heard updates on construction and facilities at its May 19 meeting and approved an energy-services contract to fund lighting upgrades and a water-heater replacement.
Operations Committee chair Mr. Case reported that bid packages recently went out for Southern Middle School and the Lincoln Park projects and that the district conducted a walkthrough of the performing-arts center, which Mr. Case described as a "phenomenal space" with a large auditorium and classrooms expected to open next school year.
Mr. Case said the district purchased a facility near Spring Ridge that will provide nine additional classrooms for next year; work remaining includes painting, blinds, landscaping and fiber installation. He described a planned lighting replacement at Wilson West estimated in committee discussion at about $973,000 with an expected payback of 12.6 years and projected 20-year savings of about $1,500,000.
On a formal vote, the board approved operations items 13.1 through 13.3, including awarding a guaranteed energy-savings contract to CM3 Building Solutions for lighting upgrades and a water-heater replacement at West Middle School at a contract amount of $975,723. The board also approved flooring installation through the CoStars program and other conversion work at the new administration building.
Board members said they anticipate late June or early July action on bid awards for the construction projects and thanked staff leading the projects.
