HRA hears roundup of downtown development activity; local businesses and small developers win state funding

The report revisits earlier “innovation district” ideas and identifies assets and potential initiatives; staff said the report is preliminary and offered for awareness rather than immediate action.
Staff also noted recent award activity: a downtown project at 174 Linemen (referred to as 1 74 Linemen in meeting remarks) received an HDIP award of roughly $979,000, which staff said will support a development that the city and small developers have been advancing. Staff also referenced larger awards to other projects (including an 85-unit project at Open Square) and credited consultant Lynn Sweet with helping downtown owners and small developers locate programs and secure grant support.
No board action was taken; the updates were informational and staff said they would circulate the consultant report and related toolkits to the board for review.
