Site-plan review public hearing had no speakers; council amends code but tables ordinance pending planning-board recommendation
Summary

The city clerk read a public-notice statement at the May 28, 2025 meeting of the Rome Common Council advertising a public hearing on proposed zoning-code amendments related to the site-plan review process. The notice set the hearing for May 2025 at 6:50 p.m. in Common Council Chambers and invited interested persons to be heard. No members of the public spoke at the hearing; the council closed the public hearing with no comments.
Later in the regular session the council considered an amendment to the Rome Code of Ordinances, chapter 80, article 19, section 80-119.4 (site-plan review). The council took a motion to insert the date 05/28/2025 into the amendment; the motion was seconded and the amendment carried. Following that action a council member stated the measure must remain on the table because the planning board had not yet submitted its recommendations, which were expected the following week. The council then voted to table the ordinance. No final ordinance adoption occurred at the May 28 meeting.
Council records and the meeting transcript indicate the public hearing drew no speakers and the code amendment will not advance to final adoption until the planning board recommendation is received and the council removes the item from the table.
