County staff reported the renovation of a former motel (the Legacy project) is complete and that 27 of 30 units are leased. The project — funded in part by a Homekey grant and a renovation contract reported at approximately $3,000,000 — converted rooms into units with kitchenettes, filled the swimming pool to create a community room, and built on-site management space.
Staff said the site receives project‑based HUD vouchers to subsidize rent for occupants and that the county signed a 50‑year covenant when the property was acquired, securing long‑term affordable housing use. Since opening, staff reported 84 individuals have been served over the life of the project; 27 units are currently occupied by 43 residents and 7 children, and 27 people who lived there previously moved into permanent housing.
The board was told on‑site case management has helped residents access services including rehabilitation, legal supports and interactions with law enforcement when necessary. The county plans a public open house on June 10 from 3–5 p.m. to show the renovated site.
During public comment a resident asked about total project costs; staff referenced an approximate $3,000,000 renovation contract and reiterated the 50‑year affordability covenant.
