At its May 27 meeting the Village of Oswego Board of Trustees presented several recognitions and a proclamation. The board recognized Ron Elvin for 10 years of service as chairman of the Oswego Police Commission; staff noted that Ron had participated in multiple hiring and promotional processes for the police department and had been directly involved in hiring 27 of the current 53 sworn officers and in selection processes for current sergeants.
The board also presented a cultural-arts recognition to photographer Jim Rendon Sr., noting that Rendon was selected as one of four artist exhibitors by the Cultural Arts Commission in 2025 and that his work is on display in the Village Hall lobby through June 5. Village staff said two of Rendon’s pieces were acquired by the library system (one at the Oswego library and one at the Montgomery campus).
Old Second Bank was named the Economic Development Commission’s Business of the Month for May. Village staff said the Oswego branch opened in April 1997, the bank now has 53 locations, and that branch staff (VP regional manager Carrie Niesman and AVP branch manager Jody/Joanie Tapp) and employees have been active volunteers and sponsors for many community events.
The board also issued a proclamation designating June 6, 2025, as a day of remembrance for D-Day and reminded residents that the Illinois Fallen Wall memorial is on display in the Village Hall lobby through June 6.
