The City of McKinney Plan and Zoning Commission on May 27 voted 7-0 to close the public hearing and approve a request to zone approximately 29 acres to R-5 (single-family residential); the item will be forwarded to City Council for final action in June 2025.
Staff presented the request as an R-5 zoning designation for a roughly 29-acre tract located on the north side of County Road 124, about a half-mile west of County Road 161 and just west of the planned Wilmoth Road alignment and the future State Highway 380 bypass. "This is a request to zone approximately 29 acres to the R-5 residential District," a staff member standing in for regular staff said. The staff member noted the property owner has requested annexation into the city limits; annexation will be presented to council alongside the zoning.
An applicant representative described the site as a roughly 30-acre parcel in northwest McKinney that was previously used by a storage and industrial developer and is now proposed for single-family residential development that aligns with the city's comprehensive plan suburban-living place type. The representative said the team is working with staff on an annexation and escrow agreement to bring the property into the city's taxable district.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Commissioner Craig moved to close the public hearing and approve the zoning request (item 250036Z); a commissioner identified in the record as Eugenia seconded the motion. The motion passed 7-0. The commission noted the item will be forwarded to City Council for final action in June 2025.
