Council proclaims 25th Tour de Belt, recognizes Capital Area Greenbelt Association

Harrisburg City Council issued a proclamation recognizing the Capital Area Greenbelt Association’s (CAGA) 25th annual Tour de Belt and invited residents to participate in the family-friendly ride.
Doug Hill, president of the Capital Area Greenbelt Association, told the council the Tour de Belt is the nonprofit’s primary fundraiser and “an opportunity for the community to get out and enjoy the treasure that we have here in the city.” He said the event supports trail maintenance and improvements and is part of the area’s active transportation network.
Hill said registration is available at caga.org and that riders will meet at the Harrisburg Area Community College campus for staggered starts. “The first wave goes off at about 09:00,” he said, and the organizers are “anticipating somewhere in the neighborhood of at least a thousand riders.”
The proclamation, signed on behalf of the City of Harrisburg by Michael J. Parker, City Clerk, and Danielle L. Bowers of Harrisburg City Council, commends CAGA for volunteer stewardship of the 20-mile Capital Area Greenbelt and for proceeds that support maintenance and improvements.
Council members and CAGA representatives said the ride promotes outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship and active transportation. The council invited residents and visitors to attend the event on Sunday, June 1.
